Roosevelt’s art room is in the
process of getting a new make-over this year.
Six advanced painting students
have begun to paint the cabinets in the art room, that are used for
storage of supplies.
The once wood faced cabinets
are painted into a mural that has different sections, by each
artist.
The sections fit together to
make one piece of art with a bubble-like design that flows through
out to make it one.
Senior Kim Pappas is one of
the painters to have a part of the mural in the art room. "Mine is
supposed to represent propaganda, about all of the stuff media puts
in our heads," said Pappas.
The mural by Pappas has a
green background with an airplane dropping hearts. It also includes
a boy that appears to be screaming with a thought bubble about his
head filled with different sayings, phrases, and words.
Another advanced painter with
a mural is senior Vanna Pence. The mural by Pence also has words
included. The words are spread throughout the design at the bottom
saying things such as fear, love, and chance.
The cabinets painted by Pence
have a yellow background and a robot who is holding its head on a
string like it is a balloon.
Ryan Adkins is another senior
to have a part in the mural. His section has a tree with photos of
other students incorporated. "It is meant to represent friendship,"
said Adkins.
Adkins’ painting was inspired
by a German Graffiti Artist.
Still working on her painting,
senior Lindsay Kean is beside Adkins.
Senior Nikki Rushman is
painting a cabinet separate from the rest.
The painting by Rushman seems
to be just a design. According to Rushman it is more than that, it
is in fact an image.
The painting is a close-up
picture of a speaker that was manipulated on a photo program on the
computer.
The gold, green, and red
swirl-like design is the picture of her speaker, while she has
layered on top a design in black. "I like doing digital work like
this," said Rushman.
Art Teacher Tonya Au plans to
keep the painting going. Au will allow future advanced painter’s the
chance to paint a cabinet or art room object of their own in years
to come. "I think its dynamite!" said Au. The Art teacher plans to
have the whole art room covered.
